Agri-Fab 36" Rear PTO Rotary Tiller – 7" Depth, Slip Clutch

The 36-inch rear PTO rotary tiller attachment is the practical answer for any garden tractor owner running serious vegetable production, food plots for hunting, or pasture renovation projects that exceed what a walk-behind tiller can reasonably deliver. A typical 16-inch walk-behind tiller covers a 100-square-foot garden bed in about 30 minutes of physically demanding work. The 36-inch tractor-mounted unit covers the same ground in five minutes from the seat — and the operator's back, shoulders, and arms thank them at the end of the day.

The 36-inch tilling width and 7-inch maximum depth represent the upper end of garden-tractor tiller capability. The width is sized to overlap meaningfully on each pass for clean coverage of garden beds without leaving narrow strips of unworked soil between passes. The depth is sufficient for any garden application: vegetable seedbeds typically require 4 to 6 inches of well-tilled soil, food plots run 3 to 5 inches, and pasture renovation generally needs 5 to 7 inches to break up established root mass.

The cutting mechanism is 18 hardened C-curve tines arranged across the gearbox shaft. The C-curve tine profile is the engineering improvement over older straight-blade designs: the curved geometry pulls soil through the rotation more aggressively, reducing surface skipping and producing finer, more uniform soil texture. The tines are heat-treated for wear resistance and can be replaced individually as they wear, rather than requiring a full assembly swap.

Power transfer comes through the garden tractor's rear PTO output via a slip-clutch protected drive shaft. The slip clutch is the critical durability feature: when the tines hit a buried rock, root mass, or obstruction, the clutch releases momentarily to absorb the shock load rather than transferring it through the gearbox. Without slip-clutch protection, a single hidden obstacle can shear gear teeth or break the input shaft.

The gearbox is cast iron with oil-bath lubrication — the standard for serious tilling equipment. Cast iron resists the heat buildup that aluminum gearboxes suffer under sustained tilling loads, and the oil bath ensures consistent lubrication of the bevel gear set across the full range of operating angles. Two adjustable skid shoes on either side of the housing set the working depth, allowing the operator to dial in the right depth for the application without leaving the seat.

The hitch is three-point or sleeve hitch depending on the specific model variant. Verification of the tractor's hitch type and PTO horsepower rating is recommended before purchase — garden tractors below approximately 18 PTO horsepower may struggle to maintain tilling depth in heavy clay soils or root-bound ground.
